It is a 17th century Portuguese fort near the confluence of the Mandovi River and the Arabian Sea. Located about 18 km from Panjim, the crumbling ramparts of this fort have attracted tourist attention. It was built in 1612 to protect the kings from possible attacks from the Dutch and Marathas. The name "Aguada" comes from the term "Aqua," meaning water. In addition, this fort used to be the source of freshwater for sailors, holding 2,376,000 gallons of water.
